Teens and Adolescents

Often times, life throws us curve balls that catch us off guard.  We get blindsided and struggle to find the tools, energy and motivation to pick ourselves back up.  Let’s be honest, we’ve all been here at one time or another.  Being alone in a struggle can often feel overwhelming.  Counseling provides an opportunity to explore emotional disturbance at its core.  We will take a peek into what is currently happening in your life that might be causing or maintaining unwanted feelings and/or behaviors and address these struggles together.

At Premier Counseling and Wellness, we offer individual counseling sessions for adults.  Whether you are looking to gain emotional support for a current “hiccup” in your life, receive educational guidance on a specific topic or develop tools to alleviate unwanted behaviors, we are here to help.  ​

Our Approach

When working with teens, we talk with them, not at them.  We take the time to step into their unique world and experience their reality.  We absolutely love working with teenagers and find this age group to be both inspiring and re-energizing.  When counseling adolescents, we utilize a strength-based approach, emphasizing each client’s unique positive attributes.  We also assist adolescents in building healthy and meaningful relationships.  When adolescents feel connected to others, they are more likely to experience joy and contentment in day-to-day activities.  We will also work alongside parents in order to help them bridge gaps in communication and assist them in building a relationship with their teen that is based on mutual respect and a sense of understanding.  We utilize Jane Nelsen’s concept of Positive Discipline that encourages young people to become responsible, resourceful and respectful members of their communities.  We will work together to break the destructive cycle of power struggles that often occur in parent-teen relationships and will work side-by-side to create healthy boundaries.
